A solid-state drive is incredibly faster than any conventional hard-disk drive. This is because an HDD employs spinning disks, that can rotate only so fast and the more data is read and written, the slower and hotter they become, at the same time an SDD employs modules of flash memory, therefore there aren't any physically moving parts. The access speeds for an SSD are much higher, which makes this sort of drives the right solution every time speed is needed. This is the reason why SSDs are in many cases employed for the Operating System on a home PC and for saving data that's accessed regularly on hosting servers. Numerous providers also use a combination of the two drives, so they save the data on HDDs, but they use a couple of SSDs to cache the more often used data and as a consequence, the data loads much quicker while the load on the HDDs is decreased because their disks have to spin less often to read and write.
SSD with Data Caching in Website Hosting
If you host your sites in a website hosting account with our company, you'll notice their excellent performance. The reason is that our cloud platform uses exclusively SSD drives for all of the files, email addresses and databases and we do not use HDDs for any part of the Internet hosting service. Along with the cutting-edge ZFS file system, this setup will boost the speed of your Internet sites significantly. For load-balancing, we also use a number of SSDs for caching purposes only. Any content which generates increased traffic or creates lots of reading/writing processes is copied on them promptly, so that the load on the main drives will be lower, thus the overall performance of all Internet sites hosted with us will improve. The latter in turn prolongs the life of the main drives and reduces the potential for a disk failure, that is an additional warranty for the integrity of any content which you upload to your account.
SSD with Data Caching in Semi-dedicated Hosting
All semi-dedicated hosting accounts that we provide are generated on a cloud platform which uses exclusively SSD drives. We do not use HDDs anymore, so your sites will load very quickly since we employ SSDs for each aspect of the service - files, databases and e-mail addresses. Considering that some users may host sites that could be more frequently visited than others, we also use a number of drives for caching. Our system identifies all the content that is accessed more frequently and copies it on these drives so as to load it from them. This configuration is used for load-balancing purposes as we make sure that several reading/writing intensive Internet sites will not affect the performance of the rest of the sites that are stored on the same main drive. Using caching drives also raises the life-span of the main storage SSDs and decreases the potential for disk failures.
