If you wish to forward a domain that you have to a different domain address or subdomain, a good way to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By creating such a record, the domain being pointed loses all its records (A, MX, and so forth) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain address it's pointed to. That way, if you are using a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be directed to the website that you have created, but it'll also appear in the Internet browser address bar at all times. Some other possible uses of a CNAME record are to redirect all the traffic from various subdomains to their main Internet domain, or to use the webmail service of your hosting provider by using webmail.your-doman.com, for example. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain due to the fact that this type of a record created for the main domain name makes it impossible to use email addresses.
CNAME Records in Website Hosting
If you have a website hosting plan from our company and you would like to set up a CNAME record, it will take you only a few mouse clicks to get it done. You can access the DNS records for all domain names and subdomains hosted within your account through the Hepsia Control Panel offered with every single plan and adding a new record is as easy as clicking on a button, picking out the type, which will be CNAME in this case, inputting the actual record value and saving the modification. If you have never added this type of record before, you will discover a Help section with a detailed video tutorial that you can watch, or you can just contact us and we will aid you with this task. If you have set up a website using another company, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you want to designate a subdomain to be used with the services of a different company, like Google Apps, all it takes is creating a CNAME record with a few clicks within your CP.
CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting
The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with every single one of our semi-dedicated server accounts, will enable you to set up a CNAME record easily. When you want to create a private URL for your e-mails, to point a domain address to a subdomain within the account or to forward a domain to another company and use some third-party service which they provide, it's not going to require more than 3 mouse clicks to create this type of record. All DNS records for the domains and subdomains hosted inside the semi-dedicated account are going to be listed in a separate section in the Control Panel, so once you are there, all you will have to do will be to select the type of the record that you want to set up and the hostname for which you are creating it, and then input the actual record text. For your convenience, you can watch a short video inside the Control Panel regarding how to create a CNAME record or you can refer to the instructions in the help article, which is available in the DNS records section.
